person putting in Invisalign in Scarborough

If you have crooked teeth, odds are you have heard about Invisalign in
Scarborough – the clear plastic aligner trays that straighten your teeth much
more subtly than regular braces. While this treatment may be better than
traditional braces, it still requires dedication and effort on your part. Here are
10 things you need to know about Invisalign before you commit to treatment.

1. You Actually Have to Wear Your Aligners

There’s no other way to say it – if you don’t keep your
aligners in for at least 20-22 hours a day, you won’t get the results you’re paying
for. Essentially, that means only removing them to eat breakfast, lunch, and
dinner, and to brush and floss afterwards.

2. You Can’t See Invisalign, But You Might Hear It

Unfortunately, it takes a while for your mouth to adjust to
any new oral appliance, Invisalign included. This means you might speak with a
lisp for the few days after you switch to a new set of aligners in the series.
Don’t worry, though – your mouth will adjust quickly.

3. Invisalign Isn’t Right for Everyone

Invisalign can correct multiple smile issues, such as
misaligned teeth, crowded teeth, overbite, or underbite. If your teeth are more
severely misaligned, however, Invisalign may not be enough. You might benefit more
from traditional braces, which can correct more severe bite problems.

4. Invest in a Travel Toothbrush

You’ll have to brush your pearly whites after eating and
before reinserting your aligners, in order to keep them clean and see-through. You’ll
want to keep several travel-sized toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste on you.

5. Limit Your Morning Coffees

Drinking anything that could stain your teeth will also
stain your Invisalign. Since you’ll have to brush before placing your aligners
back in, you’ll have to limit your coffee consumption to the same time as your
breakfast. That is, unless you want to brush another time.

6. You Might Lose Weight

No longer will you mindlessly snack in the middle of the
afternoon. If you get a craving for a snack, you’ll have to ask yourself, “Is
it worth it?” Odds are the answer will be no. Without all that snacking, your
waistline might shrink.

7. Invisalign Is Painless

Getting braces tightened is never a fun experience, and it
can leave your teeth feeling sore. You may experience some discomfort when
switching to a new set of aligners, but it’s nothing compared to the pain of a
metal bracket breaking off and poking your mouth.

8. Don’t Clean Aligners with Toothpaste

Contrary to popular belief, toothpaste contains ingredients
that are abrasive to the plastic on your aligners. Additionally, it can leave
behind stains. Use soap or a mild detergent instead.

9. Treatment Might Take Longer Than You Think

As mentioned earlier, if you don’t wear your aligners as
prescribed, treatment might take longer than the one-year average. It’s
certainly better than the two-plus-year average of braces, but you still need
to be dedicated to wearing your trays.

10. Invisalign is 100% Worth It

Not only will Invisalign fix your crooked teeth and
misaligned bite, but it will instill healthy habits in you, like always
brushing after eating. All the months of wearing aligners will be worth it to
have a beautiful and healthy smile.

Invisalign in Scarborough is an investment, but it’s one that
will be more than worth the effort. Keep these 10 things in mind before you
select it as your treatment.
