Sedation Dentistry

Does the thought of visiting a dentist make you feel nervous, anxious, or even scared? If the answer is ‘yes,’ our team here at White Willow Family & Cosmetic Dentistry wants you to know that there’s nothing to be embarrassed about – in fact, a majority of the American adult population reports experiencing some level of dental phobia when faced with an upcoming appointment. While it’s crucial to have oral health issues treated so that they don’t become worse over time, Dr. Samantha Amaro and her all-female staff understand how serious this issue is. That’s why we take every step necessary to ensure that patients feel comfortable, respected, and at ease whenever they’re in our office. Our sedation dentistry services can provide that extra level of relaxation you need to truly be at peace while we improve the health and beauty of your smile.

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is an excellent treatment option for patients who suffer from mild dental anxiety. It’s administered through a mask placed over the nose and can induce deep feelings of warmth, contentment, and even euphoria. Best of all, the effects wear off after only a minute or two, meaning that you can return to work, run errands, and even drive directly following your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you struggle with moderate to severe dental fear, conscious sedation could be the answer to helping you get through your appointment as smoothly as possible. We’ll prescribe you an oral medication that you’ll take at a certain time before you arrive at our office; a trusted family member or friend will need to escort you. Once you’re in the treatment chair, we’ll do everything we can to ensure your complete and total comfort before carrying out any procedures. While you’ll still be able to respond to commands, most patients undergoing conscious sedation are in such a deep state of relaxation that they barely remember anything about their appointment once it’s over. Then, just have the same escort take you home and keep an eye on you for the rest of the day. You should be completely back to normal by the following morning.
